Milwaukee Public Theatre creates highly acclaimed theatreworks that celebrate our uniqueness and challenge us to reach our potential. Since 1976, MPT programming has included free-to-the-public musical/vaudeville/circus productions featuring artists representing many cultures. These shows present vital issues including recycling, social history, health, the economics and politics of food, illiteracy, homelessness, and other contemporary themes and social issues. Our spring 2013 featured production is PIECES: In My Own Voice.
Food for Thought is our new 2013 project under development. It will include workshops, resource guide and a new original touring production: Out to Lunch-the Fresh Food Variety Show.
FLOW: The Traveling Water Circus was presented in 2011. Read about currently available touring shows and some of MPT's past stage presentations.
Focusing on health and wellness education, MPT artists create and present effective programming for special-needs populations, community health care agencies, seniors, families, teens and children through workshops, residencies, and touring shows. An original production about teens and mental health issues, PIECES: In My Own Voice, toured to 10 high schools in 2012, and 5 additional schools in spring, 2013. From the Start, Consider the Finish toured 10 venues state-wide in 2011, including two in Milwaukee. Tap the Potential will celebrate 10 years in October, showcasing the talents of people with disabilities, featuring an art exhibit and performances throughout the area.
